Scene set up: Our fearless Hell Kat is at the airport picking her brother Tyler up. He has just returned from a deployment to Iraq. He has with him, five Force Recon Marines who he has invited to stay for the summer.... with Hell Kat. She's not happy.
"I told them they could stay with us." He paused clearing his throat, "For the summer."
Tyler tightened his grip on my shoulder, keeping me firmly rooted to the vomit-colored industrial carpet. I don't know what I had written on my face, but I know it didn’t say, "I'm so glad! Please come and stay in my home. You're always welcome." In fact, I'm almost positive my face said, "WTF!"
Come back next week for more!
this sounds like such a great story!
ReplyDeletecan't wait to read more.

Hell Cat might have fun with the marines. Loved the dialogue.
ReplyDeleteOk, so I am racking my brain trying to picture what vomit-colored industrial carpet looks like. WTF - I love that description, I've got to use it myself. Anyway, I can just imagine Hell Kat's expression, looking like she was ready to add some additional goo to the carpet's coloring. Very nice Katie, Hell Kat sounds like my kind of girl.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like it's gonna be a fun ride. Why isn't she happy about the Force Recon Marines? It sounds like a summer of fun to me.
ReplyDeleteGreat six Katie! Loved the description. BTW what color is vomit colored carpet?
ReplyDeleteA six-pack of marines? What is her problem with that? Sounds like a typical Saturday night to me ... ;-)~
ReplyDeleteGreat way of putting it out. I like the six.
ReplyDeleteBen and Bonni, Vomit colored carpet is kind of a rust orange mixed with mauve.
ReplyDeleteTo everyone wondering why Kat would hate to have six strapping Marines shacked up at her place for a few months....let's just say she has issues. She doesn't like strangers in her house. Inviting six unknowns into your home is a poor tactical decision.
I hate uninvited guest, but those guys could stay anytime with me. ;) JK Great six, lady! Hugs! Loved your description.
ReplyDeleteGreat imagery with the carpet and I love her internal struggle! :) FAB Six!
